3. Library Privileges Information

Boston Public Library

DIRECTIONS: MBTA to Copley Square
REGISTRATION: Any resident of the Commonwealth is eligible to receive a free borrower’s card. Holders of Consortium Cards must register for a borrower’s card at the Registration Desk on the first floor of the General Library or at the Book Delivery Desk on the second floor of the Research Library. A borrower’s card is required for borrowing circulating library materials from the General Library, the branch libraries, the libraries in the Metro Boston Library Network for home use and for requesting Research Library materials for use within the building.

Harvard College Libraries (including Widener Library)

MIT graduate students can apply for stack and borrowing privileges at Widener Library Privileges Desk (617-295-4166). The borrowing card is $3.00 for an academic year. Undergraduate Students cannot apply for any privileges. However, if the student bring a letter of an MIT librarian stating that the material is not available anywhere else, the student will be given a reading room privilege that allows the student to ask a librarian to retrieve the material for the student's viewing in the reading room.

Harvard-Yenching Library of East Asian Collections

MIT students (both graduate and undergraduate) can apply for stack privileges at Yenching Library. Students cannot check out books but will have full access to the resources at Yenching Library.
