Overview

Papers:

  • Stonebraker, Michael, and Joseph Hellerstein. "What Goes Around Comes Around." In Amazon logo Readings in Database Systems. San Fransisco, CA: Morgan Kaufmann, 1998. ISBN: 1558605231. Read Sections X and XI.

This is the Stonebraker paper from the beginning of the semester -- the readings for this time cover only XML (though you might enjoy re-reading some of the earlier sections as well now that we have finished the class.) Stonebraker has a very strong (and thinly veiled) opinion about XML, but nonetheless some of his points are well reasoned and should provide for an interesting debate.

We will also finish discussing the 'Bridging the Chasm' paper from last Thursday (lecture 22.)
