Abstract
This report, the forty-second in a series of quarterly progress reports issued by the Research Laboratory of Electronics, contains a review of the research activities of the Laboratory for the three-month period ending May 31, 1956. Since this is a preliminary report, no results should be considered final. Please note that in the sections on Microwave Electronics (VI), Atomic Beams (VII), Processing and Transmission of Information (IX), Transistor Circuits (X), Noise in Electron Devices (XI), and Sensory Replacement (XIV), acknowledgment is made to partial support by Purchase Order DDL-B158. This purchase order is with Lincoln Laboratory, which is supported by the Department of the Army, the Department of the Navy, and the Department of the Air Force under Contract AF 19(122)-458 with M.I.T.
