Abstract
We believe that information technology (IT) will have important impacts on the structuring of organizations, and that these impacts will in turn affect organizational effectiveness. Three dimensions of organizational structuring were identified as important: centralization-decentralization, role change and connectedness. The impacts of IT on each of these dimensions were measured. These impacts were then used to explain various dimensions of organizational effectiveness. To explore these relationships, data was collected from 136 users of well-established information systems. The data provided support for the idea-that IT can have important effects on the effectiveness of organizations by changing organizations' structuring processes.
