Abstract
The Deshpande Center for Technological Innovation helps faculty and their students bring transformative technology from the laboratories at MIT into the commercial marketplace, where the resulting product can have an impact. It carries out its mission though several activities, such as the Grant Program and the Catalyst Program. The Deshpande Center was founded in 2002 through a generous gift of $20 million from Jaishree and Gururaj "Desh" Deshpande. The center depends on the support of industry and philanthropic donors to sustain its programs. Executive Director Rana K Gupta leads the Deshpande Center's efforts, along with Professor Kripa Varanasi, faculty director. The team includes Andromeda Blumenau, Communications and Program Manager; Eric Olivieri, Senior Project Assistant; and Laura Marin, Administrative Assistant. Guidance to projects is provided by a group of 40 volunteer Catalysts, who work closely with research teams (faculty plus grad students).
