Abstract
Among the many opportunities from the digital economy, API development is leading to new electronic linkages within and across companies. These linkages facilitate efficiencies and new sources of revenue but they are almost too easy to develop! MIT CISR research and the thesis research of an MIT master s student has found that as companies become proficient at developing APIs, they should quickly architect a platform of digital services capabilities rather than just creating a growing number of one-off APIs. This briefing introduces some early governance considerations that could contribute to a robust platform.
