Abstract
This report contains material relevant to the development of methodologies
for evaluating the cancer risks associated with atmospheric pollutants from coal
combustion and conversion processes. Information is presented on methods and
sources (1) of regression analyses in this field, and (2) of physically significant
simulation mechanisms, including potential functional modules of such mechanisms,
particularly those modules dealing with energy facility emission characterizations,
atmospheric dispersion, aerochemistry, population exposure patterns, and
carcinogenic dose-response studies. In addition to listings of several key
references and bibliographies in these areas, there is a discussion of some of
the research in progress, the urgency of the situation, and some of the barriers
to the development and dissemination of timely results.
