Abstract
The reporting year was a bittersweet one for Comparative Media Studies/Writing (CMS/W). Last year's report described a department "ready for new momentum" after a half-decade of unsuccessful searches, departures, and retirements, and pointed to a hiring wave then in progress, including a still-pending appointment for Tung-Hui Hu and a newly launched search for a fiction writer. Both came to fruition this year. That means that in a little over a year, we have successfully hired five new faculty members, and all five were our first choices-an unprecedented influx of high-profile new scholars that fulfills, and exceeds, the ambitions we described last year. The energy and enthusiasm currently present are both palpable and inspiring. We now have a larger percentage of junior colleagues than ever before.
