Abstract
The objective of this thesis is to explore the possible application of the support/infill concept in the Indian Context. For this purpose, a traditional housing settlement has been selected in the Walled City of Ahmedabad. The study has been carried out in two parts: The first part comprises of a description of the area, highlighting the salient characteristics of the society and a development of a typology to give an understanding of the settlement to a person who intends to intervene. Part two consists of the design methodology, developed from the earlier made observations, suggesting directions to its application. The study deals only with the design aspects on the level of the individual dwelling.
