This thesis investigates the retention of U.S. Army officers through a system dynamics approach, aiming to address the complex factors influencing officers' decisions to remain in or leave the service. By conducting a comprehensive literature review and synthesizing data from various secondary source surveys, key variables impacting retention were identified. These variables were integrated into a qualitative system dynamics model to reveal the intricate feedback loops and interdependencies affecting retention. The qualitative model serves as a foundation for proposing policy recommendations designed to improve officer retention rates by addressing systemic issues and enhancing overall career satisfaction. The insights gained from this research highlight the importance of a holistic and interconnected approach to policy development, emphasizing the need for sustained efforts to stabilize and improve the retention system in the Army.
