Abstract
In the construction industry, construction management is a very important job, and many people work as construction managers at construction sites every day. Construction management consists of various kinds of work. However, the work of construction management has not been clarified in a well-organized way, and construction managers have difficulty in teaching and learning skills related to construction management effectively. There are several reasons for this. One of them is the characteristic of the work of construction itself. In other words, construction of a building is only one experience that cannot be experienced by another building, which is different from other products. Another reason is the assignment of construction managers. When a project ends, the member of the project is assigned to another project. This is the matter of timing, and the assignment is not always the best. Another reason is that there is a lot of tacit knowledge related to construction. It is difficult to learn construction management with lecture-style education. In addition, it takes much time for a young construction manager to be a skillful construction manager. In this way, construction management is hard to deal with in an organized way. Therefore, we tried making a model of construction management that is helpful to understand the structure of construction management. In this research, we made the model with two steps. First, we made the first model of construction management. At this stage, the model is like a list of factors of construction management, which does not clarify the 2structure of construction management. Then, we conducted a survey that consisted of several questions related to construction management and its training. The purpose of this survey is to grasp the characteristics and essence of construction management and its training and organize the first version of the model of construction management. Based on the survey, we improved the model of construction management. This second version demonstrates what is essential in construction management and what can be trained. This second version of the construction management model is helpful with the matter of the training of construction management and the assignment of construction managers. We elicited several insights from the model of construction management created based on the results of the survey.
