In this thesis, we compared the delay of a single wavelength local area optical network and a multiple wavelength local area optical network. We used an optical folded bus as the architecture for the LAN and analyzed the system's delay for both time division multiplexing and a reservations. The multiple wavelength system is assumed to have a very limited number of wavelengths and therefore does not apply a typical wavelength division multiplexing. The analysis of the delay involves mostly queueing analysis, with extensive use of Laplace transforms and Z-transforms. The purpose of this comparison is to decide whether the improvements in delay are worth the extra costs of increasing the number of wavelengths in optical LANs.en_US
