A system was designed to reduce the time undergraduate student researchers spend programming while developing tactile perception experiments. The system allows students to program in Matlab, a high-level, interpreted language, and captures functionality common to most experiments in an easily extensible library. To further aid the student, an experiment template that illustrates the structure of a typical experiment is provided. The effectiveness of the system was evaluated by implementing a real-world experiment for measuring the 2-point error of localization of touch on the hand. The experience indicates a decrease in the total programming time and suggests the potential usefulness of interpreters and converters in general software development.en_US
