I design an input-output model to investigate the energy supply chain of coal-coke-steel in China. To study the demand, supply, and energy-intensity issues for coal and coke from a macroeconomic perspective, I apply the model to test two hypotheses: (1) coal and coke intensities in individual economic sectors decline as China's overall energy efficiency improves, and (2) the supply of coal and coke will satisfy the demand in China in the future three years given a business-as-usual assumption. The results support the first hypothesis but do not support the second. I summarize the policy implications in four areas: (1) energy, (2) environment, (3) trade, and (4) investment.en_US
