This thesis explores the design of the urban mosque within the context of the American city. It cngagcs ideas about the typology of the mosque, its functional and religious requirements as well as its cultural variations, and looks at how these are translated and merged across cultures. It traces the history of the mosque in New York City and attempts to identify emergent forms for the American mosque. The ultimate goal is a design that is connected to the cultural landscape of Brooklyn and specific to the Muslim community.en_US
