dc.description.abstractThe objective of this thesis is to investigate the mechanism of corrosion of steel reinforcement in concrete and epoxy coated reinforcing bars as corrosion resistant alternatives. Several case studies explore the durability and deterioration issues for epoxy-coated bars discovered through 30 years of implementation in reinforced concrete structures. The methods for predicting the end of functional service life for structures reinforced with uncoated reinforcing bars and with epoxy-coated reinforcing bars are detailed and tested in a design problem in the final section of this report.en_US
