dc.description.abstractA three-level buck converter is designed and analyzed, and shown to be suitable as a high-voltage down converter as a pre-regulation stage for a 600 watt DC-to-AC power inverter. Topology selection for the inverter is examined, and a three-stage system is chosen to satisfy high voltage (1.1 kV), isolation, size, and efficiency requirements. Control of the buck converter is discussed in detail, including advanced features that allow extremely low output voltages in unloaded conditions. Optimization is included for both magnetics and switching losses. A prototype of the three-level buck converter is shown to perform as expected and meet all specifications.en_US
