The Shared Memory System (SMS) for Fresh Breeze, a multiprocessor chip guided by modular programming principles, provides a global space from which all the fresh breeze processors access chunks of memory. The SMS supports the operations of: obtaining unique identifiers for new chunks; storing a chunk; accessing a chunk using its unique identifier; and incrementing or decrementing the reference count of a chunk. The SMS utilizes two levels of storage, a main storage component and many smaller clusters which connect to the Fresh Breeze processing chips. In this way the system attempts to achieve good performance at a low cost while remaining scalable to support many Fresh Breeze chips.en_US
