Abstract
This thesis chronicles a design process of a chapel in Back Bay, Boston. The first three sections record a juxtaposition of short studies and concept designs while the last focuses on the design development of the chapel alone. Heaviness and lightness are the inspiration for this thesis. I have come to understand the words less in terms of their conventional meanings and more of a dialogue between ranges of architectural forms which complement one another. An experience of a place can be enhanced by thoughtful interplay of these two qualities. Through the specific site and story can these qualities be deployed in a meaningful manner.
