This thesis explores the philosophy which underlies the Timely Self-Portrait Machine. The cultural history of the machine, the phenomenon of Television, and the personal history of this project are discussed. Technical information and a functional explanation of The Timely Self-Portrait Machine are provided. A central theme is echoed throughout; essentially, a request is made that the machine be treated by artists and designers as an agent of expression in itself, regardless of superfluous decoration.en_US
