A new non-destructive test of transformer oil dielectric strength is a promising technique to automate and make more reliable a diagnostic that presently involves intensive manual efforts. This thesis focuses some of the issues that must be understood to bring the test from the laboratory to the field. Emphasis is placed on reliability and safety by exploring any effect the test has on the transformer oil, the mechanical parameters necessary to give optimal reliability, and failsafe electronics.en_US
