Mergers and acquisitions are not merely a vehicle for corporate control. They are a vehicle for corporate strategic redirection, renewal and a means to obtain new intangible resources - capabilities. Through a review of the literature and a case of an active acquirer, this thesis examines the strategic implications of mergers and acquisitions, the process perspective of acquisitions vis-a-vis an event perspective, and defines and explains how successful acquirers undertake the tasks comprising that process.
