dc.description.abstract | This thesis attempts to describe the static and dynamic behaviors of the leaning arch bridge system. In doing so, the finite element method is employed intensively through the use of ADINA. The FEM model is an attempted reproduction of Calatrava's la Devesa footbridge. While Calatrava has developed the form through several projects, this particular bridge is a relatively clean example of the leaning arch system. The model is subjected to a variety of static and dynamic load cases. These include vertical and horizontal loads. The FEM results provide evidence reinforcing the structural theory behind the leaning arch system and exposing unforeseen behaviors. | en_US |
