dc.description.abstractWe experimentally realized the Harper Hamiltonian with charge neutral, ultracold atoms in optical lattices using laser-assisted tunneling and a potential energy gradient. The energy spectrum of this Hamiltonian is the fractal Hofstadter butterfly.en_US
