   <dim:field mdschema="dc" element="description" qualifier="abstract">This thesis explores the redesign of disaster relief kits in Chile using a methodology known as the Comprehensive Initiative on Technology Evaluation (CITE). Since the last update in 2017, the disaster kits in Chile are now set to be revised in 2024 due to a new agreement within the government. This presents an opportunity to redesign the kits using the CITE methodology to better meet the needs of the end-users. This thesis collaborates with the Chilean government to demonstrate how the kits should be redesigned to be more gender-inclusive and sustainable, reflecting the views of communities who participated in focus groups and surveys conducted for this study. The thesis underscores the importance of consulting with communities to understand their real needs and challenges, which is crucial for designing kits that truly serve those most in need after a disaster. It also highlights the significance of incorporating a gender perspective into disaster management methodologies and research. Ultimately, the redesigned kits include products that are more sustainable and gender-inclusive, and recommendations are provided on how the government can enhance its inclusivity and waste management practices.</dim:field>
