Large multi-national corporations have been able to invest the capital necessary to create infrastructures or work with banking institutions to facilitate payments in the past, but small and medium sized companies were limited in their ability to utilize electronic payment systems. The growth of global business has created a need for effective payment systems for the many small and medium sized companies. The evolution of the industry is dependent on the convergence of business, technology and government regulation in order to succeed.
