Travelling memorial
Thesis
memorials aids serve to aid our memory and define our communities. They rely on human participation, and become irrelevant when interaction is lost. Catastrophe has been a primary catalyst for memory. While catastrophic events, which affect large groups of people disrupt communities they also act to unite them. Communities can no longer be defined only by physical proximity but also by common experience and interest. They are bound more through the event than the place. The present memorial connotes a place of permanence heavily grounded in its own materiality, a fixation of space and place. The contemporary Memorial must be one that becomes an active container of knowledge and information rather than a passive one.
