Organic light-emitting devices have the potential to create a new range of applications. They are versatile because their physical properties (color, emission efficiency) can be fine-tuned by the manipulation of their chemical structures. In this work, the novel technology of Ru(bpy)t-based devices was evaluated in the feasibility of commercializatjon. An overview was presented on current development and competing technologies within research and industry with regard to advantages and drawbacks of the technology of various organic light-emitting devices. The basic principles concerning the light emission from various devices were also presented.
