Course Meeting Times

Lectures: 3 sessions / week, 1 hour / session

Course Description

This course is a student-presented seminar in combinatorics, graph theory, and discrete mathematics in general. Designated a Mathematics CI-M (Communication Intensive in the Major) course, instruction and practice in written and oral communication is emphasized. Participants read and present papers from recent mathematics literature and write a final paper in a related topic.

Prerequisites

Principles of Applied Mathematics (18.310 or 18.310C), Linear Algebra (18.700), or permission of the instructor.

Lecture Presentations

Each student will present 3-4 times over the semester before the class.

Steps for preparing a lecture:

  1. Choose a topic.
  2. Learn about it.
  3. Present!

Remember this key rule: You have a class that goes for 50 minutes. There is no greater joy than finishing in 40 minutes.

Grading Policy

Your grade will depend on attendance, the quality of your presentations, and your final paper project.
