The thesis has been an exploration within an attitude towards urban design. This attitude is structured on a belief, in the necessity for inclusive thinking and appreciation of the multiple phenomena of life, as the basis for a design process which seeks to understand and transform the form of a city. In the evolution of the thesis a methodology for urban analysis has been developed and its implications explored through an investigation of alternative urban forms for the city of Burlington, Vermont. The methodology seeks to develop a range of informed positions towards an appropriate city form through multiple advocacy design projections, as well as multiple syntheses of these. It is felt that this kind of analysis is a necessary ingredient for an urban design process which attempts inclusiveness.en_US
