Abstract
The issue of using information systems to enhance the effectiveness of organizations and in particular management decision making is a difficult subject on which to talk, particularly in a short time. There are several inherent limitations to sensible discussion, the most obvious of which is our paucity of knowledge. Our theories and concepts in this area are inadequate, and therefore good empirical data is lacking. Some work is emerging (see Alter, 1975) but the evidence to support any one point of view remains limited.
