Abstract
Significant advances in information technologies (IT) have provided opportunities for dramatically increased connectivity among information systems. Meanwhile globalization, whereby the scope and presence of organizations expand beyond their traditional geographic boundaries, has exerted propelling effect on many organizations to capitalize on these increased connectivity opportunities. As a result of the push-pull effect between the increased connectivity and globalization, many important applications in the 1990's will require access to and integration of multiple disparate databases both within and across organizational boundaries.
