Abstract
Much has been written in recent years about the changes in corporate strategies and industry structures associated with electronic coordination of market activities. This paper considers the advent of electronic market coordination in the home mortgage industry, focusing on Computerized Loan Origination systems (CLOs). Initially developed over a decade ago, CLOs give home buyers an automated means to compare, select, apply for and close mortgage loans. CLO terminals, sometimes found in real estate agencies, provide mortgage information and application services from several lenders at the point of sale of the property to be mortgaged.
