Abstract
Data envelopment analysis (DEA) is a linear programming-based technique for the measurement of productive efficiency. It features the ability to convert multiple input and output measures into a single comprehensive measure of performance. Early reported applications involved integrating DEA into the planning and control process to aid performance measurement and to support resource allocation decisions. Recently DEA has found application in a more exploratory, diagnostic capacity, to help with the identification of significant relationships among variables and of important trends.
