Description

The goal of this course is to understand the transformation of visual stimuli into signals recognized by the brain. All the senses are discussed; vision is covered most extensively, with topics including the perception of color, motion, form, and depth. The way we will approach this study is through answering the following questions:

  • How do the senses work?
  • How do physical stimuli get transformed into signals in the nervous system?
  • How does the brain use those signals to determine what's out there in the world?

Requirements

Students are required to produce visual illusions, and a web site demonstrating and explaining why these illusions work. See the details on the assignments page.
