dc.description.abstract2-Silyl-cyclobutene(di)ones are obtained by an addition/substitution approach on dimethyl squarate using silyl anions. The acetal and in particular the thioacetal derivatives readily undergo electrocyclic ring opening to reactive silyl(vinyl)ketenes.en_US
