Measurement of the Ξ[superscript −][subscript b] and Ω[superscript −][subscript b] Baryon Lifetimes

Using a data sample of pp collisions corresponding to an integrated luminosity of 3 fb[supercript -1], the Ξ[superscript -][subscript b] and Ω[supercript -][subscript b] baryons are reconstructed in the Ξ[superscript -][subscript b] → J/ψΞ[superscript -] and Ω[superscript -][subscript b] → J/ψΩ[superscript -] decay modes and their lifetimes measured to be τ(Ξ[superscript -][subscript b]) = 1.55[subscript -0.09][superscript +0.10](stat)±0.03(syst)ps, τ(Ω[superscript -][subscript b]) = 1.54[subscript -0.21][subscript +0.26](stat)±0.05(syst)ps. These are the most precise determinations to date. Both measurements are in good agreement with previous experimental results and with theoretical predictions. © 2014 The Authors
