The contrasting tonal profiles of swul (H[approximately equal to]L), mwul (HH), and ton (LH) are used as probes of phonological phrasing. It is shown that monosyllables combine with the following phonological word to form a single Minor Phrase when they appear at the beginning of a Major Phrase in a variety of syntactic constructions.
