© 2020 The Author(s). Published with license by Taylor & Francis Group, LLC. Cell-cycle dependent redox changes result in increased protein oxidation in mitotic cells. We show that oxidative modifications of a conserved cysteine residue within Aurora A kinase (AURKA) can promote its activation during mitosis. Targeting redox-sensitive cysteine residues within AURKA may lead to the development of novel anti-cancer agents with improved clinical efficacy.
